    If it's coming before Christmas, then it needs to be announced in early November to give everyone the option to ask for the 5.5G (which I think they'd keep) or the higher priced 6G video iPod. When Zune announced their date of 14 November, I did wonder if we'd see an Apple event invitation for around the same time to steal their thunder...

    December for an announcement is too late; there's not enough time for Apple's resellers to get behind it or for Apple to stock them up for it - and there are a lot of iPods sold by resellers.

    Jon Stewart seems to have goofed here, and there's the problem. There's no way unring this bell. Jon missed about 90% of the story, and according to his views, opening a criminal investigation is not ok if it'd going to cause the plaintiff bad publicity, or if the plaintiff seems "mean."

    Jon needs to stick to political commentary, which is usually a lot easier to play with than scenarios that involve finer points of law.

    Section 2080 of the Civil Code provides that any person who finds and takes charge of a lost item acts as "a depositary for the owner." If the true owner is known, the finder must notify him/her/it within a reasonable time and "make restitution without compensation, except a reasonable charge for saving and taking care of the property." Id. 2080. If the true owner is not known and the item is worth more than $100, then the finder has a duty to turn it over to the local police department within a reasonable time. Id. 2080.1. The owner then has 90 days to claim the property. Id. 2080.2. If the true owner fails to do so and the property is worth more than $250, then the police publish a notice, and 7 days after that ownership of the property vests in the person who found it, with certain exceptions. Id. 2080.3.

    Moving along, Gawker Media better be ready to defend themselves because shield laws won't help if you've committed a felony in order to do a story. That US$5,000 payment is a major smoking gun if Apple can prove the prototype iPhone was officially stolen, which means Gawker Media paid to buy stolen property, a felony in the state of California.

    thanks for the information, and i completely agree with your points (because of their obvious validity) and your signature which I am in the process of doing right now.

    750 GB... that is just insane, especially for a consumer Mac! :D Apple is getting nicer and nicer when it comes to offering more configuration options.

    Yeah, just think of all the porn you can download! ;)

    I like him, contrary to everybody else bashing him in the other post.

    Nice to see his lack of grammar, but it's just a blog post.

    Also, I'm wondering how much they pay him, considering his statements of being paid well... ..i guess it is Apple...

    I don't think that anyone was expecting two iPads to arrive in one year..

    I think I'll wait for iPad 3. Does anyone know when it will come out?

    Researchers at the University of Duh attached Apple-Nike devices on many squirrels of the campus.

    Within 4 hours, all the squirrels disappeared.

    Scientists of the University stated that they are plotting against us.

    Mr. Soone Gaytz, Professor at the University claims - Clearly, they are going to take over humanity corrupting our own ipods, we are going to be strangled by the cord of the headphones. We are going to be under their control... mind control that is. They are going to force us to listen to the chipmunks.

    Researchers of the university warn that do not be close to a squirrel in a range of 60 feet. It could have a deadly mind control device!

    The most important line of this report is that:
    Apple and Nike officials were unavailable for comments

    Sansa Creaf, University of Duh reporting from Redmond...

    How do they view Karma in relation to this catastrophe? That something they did as a group caused it? Or is Karma just between how people treat each other?

    I'm not an expert on this obviously but as I understand it another's actions have a effect on everyone's karma this leads to a strong sense of social cohesiveness and to the strong sense of we are all in this together.As to the larger question I honestly don't know but I suspect fatalism has a strong influence.

    I suggest those waiting hold their breath. Either you want an iPad or you don't. If you can wait 6-12 months for something, the product probably isn't what you are looking for in the first place...

    Well, in my case I may be waiting the 6 months or so for the iPad2 or even hold out for the iPad3 next March reason being that I'm purchasing a 27" iMac when they are refreshed this year as well as upgrading my iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 5 once that is released.

    I must live wrong or something. All these people are worried about being tracked? Are they all spies, or gang members, or something?

    hehe, The government, or whomever, can track me all they want. It would be a most boring exercise for them.

    at this point I am just going to go into my local best buy after work. This apple/att website business is for the birds! :mad: I don't mind paying the $50 deposit as long as I am guaranteed a phone on the 24th. I was just planning on using my best buy credit card. Wonder if I will be able to do that for the pre-order? TIA very kind BB worker answering questions :)

    Buy a Mophie, back up battery. I got the 2000 mAh capacity, it nearly double the battery capacity of my IPhone, not to mention it's awesome when I have no charger any where near my phone.

    Seriously highly recommend, I used to have the one for the 3GS and it was equally impressive.

    Sorry, OT, but I got a Mophie, pretty good. 2 problems I have it though:
    -It uses up the dock connector. So if I want to use an accessory, I have to remove the case which defeats the purpose. They could move the battery power lights to the side to fix this problem.

    -It adds enough thickness to the phone, the volume & sleep buttons are hard to press. Could be fixed by just adding covers over them. However, I've gotten so used to the size of the case, when the case is off, the iPhone feels kinda flimsy.

    Works good as a space heater hear in the Great White North eh! ;)
    Now you've made me hate you. :eek: I live in a hot climate, and have to use a window AC in the computer room/office just to handle the heat off of a system running a single GPU (4870, so nothing insane either). :D :p

    ...that there is no sound. No matter what I do - on my home network or on my friend's - I cannot get sound delivered to the iPhone. The phone's other system sounds work fine, so I know it's not something else. I have already tried deleting and reinstalling too. Additionally, I do sometimes drop sound with my mac's Eyetv and have to quit and restart the application to get it back - does anybody have any idea if that's related somehow?

    I'm so confused :confused::confused:
    I've seen this problem also (just once recently, once or twice a long time ago), but it was fixed by restarting the application on the Mac.

    If you're having trouble pulling the pin out, try squising the edge with a pair of pliers and then just push down on it with a screwdriver lol.

    For the last time.... it's not coming out this year.

    iPad = spring
    iPhone = summer
    iPod = fall

    Once a year cycle. Stupid source.

    I swear some of these rumors are nothing but a mole hunting expedition by Steve and company to handle security leaks inside Apple. Considering some of the directors and VPs over at Apple have Intelligence Community connections, this does not surprise me one bit. Curious what those in the current IC are doing instead of these reindeer games.

    Here are some more result using the EyeTV iPhone app. Yes, you can stream recorded videos over the iPhone's 3G connection.

    I did some more conversions using the default "cellular" compression setting and the playback was actually smooth and usable (but the resolution is only 176x144 at something like 80kbps). However, anything with a lot of motion or changing detail or back-to-back scene changes will blur or become very blocky. Text is also mostly unreadable (in the video) so you can't see subtitles or news crawls. The audio, however, sounds surprisingly good.

    I also tried streaming a video at 320x240 (over 3G) but that resulted in pauses and rebuffering about every 4 seconds (i.e. it wasn't watchable, although between the pauses the quality looked pretty good on the iPhone). However, I didn't speed much time trying to optimize the compression settings at this larger size so I don't know what might be possible over a good connection.

    Sorry but that's not the case, created an account just recently to provide my input on this issue on another thread. I am 3 iPads down with problems and still hoping the 4th will arrive with no leakage or dead pixels. I'm glad yours is "absolute fine" but if you do a search or just ask around you will find this is a widespread problem

    Mine is fine. No bleed. I'm not sayin it does not exist, but mine is fine.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

    So ridiculous dude. Just embarassing. Do you really think anyone has the time or desire?

    I am on my second iPad 2 and this one has far worse bleed then the first did which is just sad..

    If this is not an issue then the thread with 108,000 views would like to have a word with you..

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1114606

    My bad if this is for real, it just sounds so much like the iPhone Antenna issues threads that started last year. I bought in to that whole garbage hook line and sinker at first and there were tons of newbies posting on the problem.

    When I finally got to see a few actual iPhone 4's (never bought one since I am still under contract for 3GS) -- I could not replicate the problem. Over the past year I must have tried on about 20 iPhone 4's of friends, many times in areas of really bad coverage and compared it directly with my 3GS -- but no antenna issue could be discerned that was any worse than other smart phones and it consistently out-performed the antenna on my 3GS.

    Clearly volume of posts (108,000) does not make the problem real since the iPhone 4 Antenna got more posts than I can count on more threads than I count. But it certainly lends some credence.

    I also find it a bit hard to believe that Halebopp has managed to get 3 iPad 2's in the two weeks that they have been out and that he is waiting for the 4th given the production shortages. Unless Halebopp is going down to the Apple Store every morning at 7am and waiting in line for it to open so he can exchange the unit before the stock disappears. Maybe Apple Store is willing to hold one for you if you call the day before and tell them about the problem you are having and that you need an exchange. But I remember when folks where exchanging their 27-inch iMacs that had screen problems that it took quite a while to get replacement units.

    So maybe it was/is a bit presumptuous of me to assume that since mine was fine that this was a repeat of that whole Antenna-gate thing. If so then I apologize, and I will reserve my judgement until there are enough iPad 2's out there in circulation for me to test with a dozen or so units of friends.

    With regards to whether or not I think folks have the time or desire to post fake problems with regards to Apple products, I believe the answer is "yes" based on what I have seen. Does it mean that is always or usually the case, probably not.
